Founded by Anissa Sonthalia and architect Aadya Bhartia, Trace Gallery is a contemporary art gallery and multidisciplinary space in Kolkata dedicated to platforming experimental practices across visual art, design and music.
The gallery takes its name from the idea of a trace: a mark left behind and a point of departure for what comes next. It also references the act of tracing, a process embedded within artistic and craft traditions such as printmaking and embroidery. This dialogue between inheritance and reinvention informs the gallery's curatorial vision.
Anchored in Kolkata’s rich cultural history yet looking towards the world, Trace Gallery champions emerging artists, designers and musicians, and experimental creative practices that challenge disciplinary boundaries, reimagine material traditions and expand the possibilities of contemporary culture.
Through its exhibition programme and curatorial initiatives, Trace aims to honour traditional knowledge systems while foregrounding cultural innovation, collaboration and critical inquiry.
